Lent is a 40-day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It is a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. Following Lent, we celebrate the Holy Triduum of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and The Resurrection of the Lord. The season of Easter is the most important of all liturgical times, which Catholics celebrate as the Lord's resurrection from the dead, culminating in his Ascension to the Father and sending of the Holy Spirit upon the Church. The octave of Easter comprises the eight days which stretch from the first to the second Sunday. It is a way of prolonging the joy of the initial day. There are 50 days of Easter from the first Sunday to Pentecost. It is characterized, above all, by the joy of glorified life and the victory over death expressed most fully in the great resounding cry of the Christian:  Alleluia! All faith flows from faith in the resurrection: "If Christ has not been raised, then empty is our preaching; empty, too, is your faith." (1 Cor 15:14)

Abstinence and Fasting Practices (Lenten Regulations):

Days of Abstinence (No Meat):  Ash Wednesday, all Fridays of Lent and Good Friday (midnight to midnight) for all who have reached their 15th birthday (Canon 1252).

Days of Fasting:  Ash Wednesday and Good Friday for all who are 18 - 59 years old (limit one full meatless meal and two smaller meals as needed to preserve strength).

Eucharistic Adoration:  Wednesdays from 9:30 AM to 2 PM, Parish Center Chapel. A beautiful time to be alone in prayer and feel the warmth and power of our Lord.

Return Palm Branches to the Parish Center or Mother Earth: You may drop blessed dried palms off at the designated church receptacle throughout Lent. Or you may bury or burn them yourself and spread the ashes outside.
