Serving Others

Middle School Mission Trip

The Middle School Mission Trip is a week long experience in which youth serve God by working in already established ministries in different host cities. This mission trip works more as a relational ministry which is a different approach than the High School Workcamps. Both are very effective but each one is unique. Youth participating in past mission trips have always said it was a worthwhile and life changing experience. For more information visit Summer Trips Website.

St. Joseph's 30 Hour Fast

This is a 30-hour experience of fasting and service for which the participants collect pledges from people in their neighborhoods.  In addition to the pledges each participant collects, a $25.00 fee is charged to cover the expenses related to the fast. – some of our service projects require that we purchase supplies.  The money collected is sent to a worthy charity to feed and educate hungry people throughout the world.

The Fast actually begins at 1:00pm on Friday. The youth gather at the Parish center at 4:00pm for an overnight experience which includes community building, education, and service throughout the Twin Cities. We make sure that we are all back at the Parish by 4:30pm Saturday, so that we can attend the 4:30pm Mass together. We break the Fast at  7:00pm, when we share a spaghetti dinner together.

About 40 drivers and two overnight chaperones are needed to make this service event a smooth running operation. This event is usually held on the last weekend of February or the first weekend of March.

Contact Larry Thomas (x138) to register.

Peer Ministry

All teenagers who are being called to Discipleship are encouraged to check out this ministry. Young people in 8-12th grades provide the leadership for a variety of LIFE TEEN events (i.e. Coffee Houses), Retreats, LIFE TEEN Masses as well as support each other through faith sharing. The Youth Ministers help Peer Ministers to build their skills in leadership and ministry. These young people are primarily focused on building their relationship with Christ through active ministry to their friends, family, community and Parish. For more information on the Peer Ministry Team, visit the St. Joseph's Peer Ministry Webpage.

The Paint-A-Thon

The Paint - A-Thon, a program sponsored by the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches, unites people of faith  to serve people in need. This year we hope to have 3 teams formed from the volunteers here at St. Joseph's. Anyone who is in interested, middle school age to adult, can volunteer. We will be prepping and painting the homes of people who have been approved by the Paint-A-Thon office. Preparation of the homes is scheduled for July 30-Aug.3 and the Paint day is August 4 (and 5 if we need it).  Call Larry or Kate at the Church office to volunteer.
