Volunteer Opportunities For Middle School Youth
In The IN TOUCH Program
 


Middle School Choir
:  6th - 8th grade. Sings once a month at 11:00 and once a month at 6:00. Practices on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 - 8:30.

Note: The Middle School youths may also sing at other times with the 6:00 Life Line Band.

Qualifications:  Must enjoy music and be willing to help lead the congregation in song during worship.
 

Peer Ministers
: Provide Peer Leadership and are 8th graders with leadership skills, either recruited or who volunteer. Peer Ministers assist the Adult Core Team members by modeling the level of participation we desire from the youth attending In touch. And by sharing the  responsibilities of adult Core Team members. Retreat Leadership is also open to this young group of leaders.

Qualifications: Interest in your own spiritual growth and the spiritual growth of others, and in developing the leadership skills you already have, so as to be more effective at evangelization.
 


Mission Trip Participant:
 
Participants spend a week in another city/town dedicating themselves to Serving God by serving others. You may work at a soup kitchen, a nursing home, a Kid’s Club, or paint a house for a person or family in need.  There are two trips annually to choose from.
 


30 Hour Fast Participant:
  Participants collect sponsor donations and participate  in a thirty hour fast which starts at 1pm on Friday and ends on Saturday at 7pm.  During the fast, participants are engaged in community service, education sessions about poverty, and a social event.  All money collected from sponsors is sent to an organization which serves the hungry or starving here at home and around the world.
 


6pm Liturgical Ministry -  A Couple of Areas to Serve:

Hospitality Minister: Welcomes all who enter worship space, hands out songbooks, ushers and helps to bring up the Gifts as needed. Takes up collection. Arrive 20 minutes before Mass. Ministers serve once a month.

Qualifications:  Friendly and dependable.

Drama Ministers
: Prepares the assembly for hearing the Word of God through a brief dramatization. Serves at the 6:00 mass. Opened to Middle and High school students.

Qualifications:   Willing to discuss and practice the skits beforehand.

Lector: Proclaims the Scripture readings at Mass. Leads the assembly in the Prayers of the Faithful and makes the announcements at Mass.

Qualifications:  Ability to read and speak clearly and effectively.
 


Child Care At St. Anne’s
Provide child care for residents with children, while the residents are attending mandatory group sessions.  2-4 middle school youth are needed 2 times each month to provide this service. St. Anne’s is a homeless shelter for women and their children.  Volunteers meet at St. Josephs at 6:30pm and return by 8:30pm.
 


Paint-A-Thon:
   Provides the labor to prep and paint the outside of  homes belonging to residents who are no longer able to do the work themselves. The prep takes place on the last Saturday of July and the painting takes place on the first Saturday of August.

Qualifications:  Must be willing to have a good time, helping an elderly or disabled person reclaim pride in the appearance of their home. Requires hard work, but  is very rewarding work.
