Pastor's Welcome

Welcome to Saint Joseph Community,

For many people, the beginning of a new year is a time to reflect on the past year and make some changes for the future. We are all too aware of the problems that face our country and our world and we look to our church family to help us, but where does our search end?  Better yet, where does it begin?

George Gallop gives some interesting insights about the way Americans are making their spiritual choices today. He points out six basic spiritual needs of Americans at this point in history and how churches can best meet these needs. Here are the six that he mentions:

  • The need to believe that life is meaningful and has purpose.

  • The need for a sense of community and deeper relationships

  • The need to be appreciated and respected

  • The need to be listened to – to be heard

  • The need to feel that one is growing in faith

  • The need for practical help in developing a mature faith.

As a community of faith, Saint Joseph Parish is committed to developing a mature faith among its members.  We pray and believe in the power of prayer.  Sometimes we are hard pressed to defend our faith, because we are uncertain about what we believe, but we are all searchers who have hope for our church and our world.

I would challenge all of us in this new year of 2008 to help each other meet the six needs of people today.   On a religious level let us be resolved to do as the three magi did when they found Christ, they gave them the best that they could offer.  Extravagant gifts in response to God’s extravagant love.

 In Christ,

 Fr. Terry Rassmussen
